At the opening meeting, Erika Simonazzi, Marketing Director of Flo SpA, addressed the delicate issue of the European Directive on disposable plastic products, which was finally approved by the European Parliament.
A complex topic that has seen the manufacturers of disposable plastic items sign a commitment according to which “they will adopt models of separate collection and recycling of plastic tableware from fossil sources; will undertake to produce and use crockery made with bio-polymers of vegetable origin; they will use biopolymers in a massive way for the production of disposable tableware”. “Within the framework of the Directive – explained Erika Simonazzi – the EU does not require banning plastic glasses but provides for a reduction in the consumption of disposable glasses. No prohibition even for plastic bottles, but a virtuous recycling obligation. Instead, from 2021 onwards, some disposable products will be banned, including food containers made of polystyrene foam”.
In this context, the RiVending project – presented to the audience of Acquafair – takes on particular importance.
